Water pooling on roadways right after heavy overnight rainfall
The overnight rainfall storm is causing lots of issues on our roads today.
Surrey RCMP Personnel Sgt. Murray Hedderson states as a driver it’s hard to inform the depth of the drinking water. “If individuals see standing drinking water on the roadway, they ought to look at attempting to avoid it, they ought to enter it gradually being careful about how exactly deep the water gets as they’re driving involved with it, as it will get up in the motor compartment it could drown the engine.”
Hedderson says some home owners may also be struggling with the elements. “We’ve got our cops out driving around, town public functions and the fire division are out seeing so what can assisted with that. We’ve also had a couple of phone calls from residents in basement suites which have had drinking water flowing into them.”
Environment Canada is finished a rainfall caution for the region, but a wind caution remains in place with gusts around 90 km/h feasible today.
Strong winds may have a direct effect on ferry sailings.
Darin Guinette with BC Ferries state a number of factors is necessary if they make the major choice to cancel a sailing: like how windy it really is, the size of the ocean swells, tides, and path of the wind.
He says choices are an easy task to make when it’s obviously dangerous to use vessels. “Right round the terminals whether you’re docking or leaving behind, that is when there’s prospect of probably the most danger. Out in the center of the drinking water if you’re obtaining tossed around it could be very unpleasant but you’re typically not really going to come across much.”
